About Jade
Hello there! My name is J. Jade Adair (she/her) and I am a Psychotherapist (LCSW, LCDC) licensed to serve clients in both Texas and Oregon. I’ve spent the last 20 yrs residing in Austin, TX and have been a practicing therapist for 13 of those years.
I was a Licensed Cosmetologist from 2004-2011, during which time I became inspired by the "daymaker" philosophy: the simple concept of changing the world by making one person's day, everyday. This philosophy motivated me to ultimately change careers and pursue therapy.
I received my Master of Science in Social Work degree (2011) and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree (2008) from The University of Texas at Austin.
I have extensive experience working with adults facing mental health and/or substance use issues at all levels of care (inpatient psychiatric, inpatient detox, RTC, PHP, IOP, and private practice).
Some fun info:
I am a proud cat lady.
I am fairly obsessed with the color purple.
My biggest hobby/passion is travel.
I am mixed Indigenous.
My Practice.
I offer culturally affirming & inclusive psychotherapy to diverse adults in Texas and Oregon (age 20+), specifically those who have marginalized identities (artists, creatives, counter-culture, & minorities of all types) as well as therapists & other mental health professionals.
I provide a non-judgmental and understanding space for people who may have struggled engaging in therapy in the past due to feeling judged for being “weird” or “different”.
I am in the SIMS Foundation provider network and provide mental health and substance use recovery services for Austin area musicians, music industry professionals, and their dependent family members.
I contract with the following EAP providers, who offer free therapy sessions to employees of their contracted companies: Modern Health | Lyra Health | Spring Health
I also provide clinical supervision to LMSWs in Texas seeking LCSW licensure and a variety of coaching services.
My clients typically feel stuck in one or more areas of life (relationship, family, career, holistic health, identity, personal happiness, etc.) and are sometimes struggling with mood or anxiety disorders, maladaptive coping behaviors, unresolved traumas, substance use disorders, etc.
My Values & Approach.
I am a purple haired, heavily tattooed, mixed-race, multi-ethnic, feminist, BIPOC therapist.
I meet each client where they're at, bringing a lens of compassion, non-judgment, mutuality, and deep respect into each session. I have a directive approach, and therapy with me is both practical and insight oriented.
I believe my clients already have the answers, wisdom, & capacity for change w/in themselves- my role is to help them access those resources to facilitate positive change.
Much of my work is skills based and I place a lot of value on empiricism and accountability. I begin offering evidence based therapies (EBTs), psychoeducation, and tangible skill-building techniques from the very first session.
I have a strong interest and background in Behavioral Neuroscience (as related to mental health and substance use issues) that informs my treatment with clients.
I draw heavily on Attachment Theory and utilize a variety of EBTs to help clients reach their goals and thrive in their lives. This includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) & Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as well as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness based therapies (MBSR, MBCT), Emotionally Focused Therapies (EFT for couples & EFIT for individuals), Radically Open DBT, and Self-Compassion based therapies.
I have knowledge of 12-step and other sober support programs, as well as Harm Reduction strategies.
