Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
No. Insurance can be very limiting in the work I do with my clients, therefore, I am not on any insurance panels. For more info on why I don’t take insurance and possible options for out-of-network reimbursement, go here.
Will you diagnose me?
If you request a formal diagnosis, I can provide one. That being said, because I am a private-pay therapist I am not required to document a diagnosis for you and likely will not (unless something specific is required for potential out-of-network reimbursement). If it seems like you could benefit from some additional support or insight that would merit a specific diagnosis, or you have a clear history or presentation of clinically relevant symptoms, we can talk about diagnosis. Otherwise, we won't worry about it.
Can I see you virtually?
Yes! In fact, you can only see me virtually. Effective Nov. 1, 2024 I no longer offer in-person services. All virtual sessions are held over Zoom.
How long are sessions?
Individual sessions are 50 minutes, couples sessions are 60 mins, and group sessions are 90-120 minutes depending on group size.
How much do sessions cost?
Please see my Services page for more details on the cost of specific services.
Do you offer sliding-scale appointments?
Yes. I use an equitable sliding scale to determine the fee for all my individual therapy clients. Fees are determined by a client’ location and income. Please email for specifics.
What if I need to cancel?
Simply let me know at least 2 days in advance via text, email, or using the appt. confirmation link you receive from Square. Sessions canceled the day before an appt. will be charged 50% of the session fee and sessions canceled the day of an appt. will be charged the full session fee. I do make every effort to reschedule late-cancelations and no-shows within the same week, but cannot guarantee it. If we are able to reschedule within the same week, the late-cancel fees you paid will be applied to the cost of the rescheduled session (i.e. you will not be charged twice).
I’ve been told I need a DBT therapist, can you meet my needs?
There is a wide spectrum of DBT offerings in therapy. Finding out which type of DBT is right for you is key. When a therapist says they offer DBT, be sure to ask exactly what that looks like. This will ensure you get the treatment that meets your personal needs. If you are interested in DBT, this General Guide to DBT can help you find the right fit.
I provide DBT informed (non-adherent) individual therapy. This means I use DBT in individual sessions as needed, when it meets the client’s needs. I received Skills Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy from The Linehan Institute/Behavioral Tech, LLC and DBT for Substance Abusers (DBT-SUD) training from the Portland DBT Institute in 2014. My DBT skills group is adherent when combined with weekly DBT Individual Therapy and phone coaching from a therapist on a DBT consultation team. I can give you referrals for intensively trained DBT individual therapists who provide these additional services.
Is there anyone that you do not work with?
I do not provide evaluations or recommendations in any legal cases (including child custody cases). I do not work with individuals in active addiction (meaning untreated and unwilling to treat), individuals under 20 years of age, individuals in high school (regardless of age), and anyone that resides outside the states of Texas or Oregon (unless you are seeking coaching instead of therapy). I do not provide individual therapy to individuals who would best be served by Adherent DBT (such individuals can participate in my DBT skills group if combined with weekly DBT Individual Therapy and phone coaching from a therapist on a DBT consultation team).
